Before you start

What to have ready

Machine, licence and storage — in that order of interest to an insurer.

  • Make, model, engine size and year.
  • Your licence category, which country issued it, and how long you have held it.
  • Where the bike is kept overnight, and whether it is garaged.
  • Rough annual mileage, and whether it is used for commuting.
  • The claims certificate from your previous motor insurer, which it must issue on request.
  • Whether you want third party, third party fire and theft, or comprehensive.
  • Any security fitted: an alarm, an immobiliser, a chain and ground anchor.

Why the licence category and the storage matter

These two answers do more to a motorbike quote than the make of the machine.

Licence entitlement is more granular for motorcycles than for cars, and the category you hold has to match the machine you want to insure. Getting this straight at the quote stage avoids a policy issued against an entitlement you do not actually have.

Storage matters because theft is the loss a motorbike is most exposed to. A machine kept in a locked garage is a different proposition from one on the street, and the security fitted to it changes the picture again. Describe where it genuinely sleeps.

Cover level is worth pricing across all three rather than choosing between two. Third party fire and theft is frequently the level that matches the real risk on a machine kept outdoors, and it is the option most often left out of a quotation unless asked for.

Asking for a quote commits you to nothing. We do not need payment details to prepare one, and nothing is arranged until you say so.
